Alcide Bava

Alcide Bava - (FR)

Obsolettrismes – this wordplay, which refers both to the adjective "obsolète" and the literary Lettrist movement, indicates the direction the work of this Parisian artist is taking.

Architectural, socio-mental, and visual vacancy collide with writing and art. From the fusion of impulses from Lettrism – a precursor movement to the Situationists – and later, less theoretical but more action-driven and graffiti writing that occupies urban spaces, a new visual poetry emerges.

In Paris, it can happen that a metro or a small truck, heavily covered with writing, drives past pedestrians. Reading the text precisely is impossible, but a captured fragment, combined with the fleeting moment and the atmosphere of the surroundings, becomes all the more powerful. Here, poetry is no longer limited to language but becomes contextual and situational – or: situationist.
